So as many of you know. I've recently been bemoaning the demise of my beloved Tina (my 996 Carerra 2).
Last Friday, I was in MD visiting the dear old sis when I decided to drive 2 miles down the street to get a hair cut.
I pulled out of her complex without issue, but a few yards down the road, my pesky heat shield squeak (of many months) turned to a rattle. Stupidly, I figured a slight tap of the accelerator might knock whatever came loose, off.
I blipped my throttle to maybe 5K and heard popping - kinda like hitting rev limiter, except I was nowhere near that. After that, the engine sounded like crap. Like it was misfiring badly and I could hear more rattling in higher rpms, and the car lost power upon trying to accelerate. Horrid, horrid noises! And then, while trying to get it on a flat bed, it started blwoing massive amounts of oil.
Anyways....the car got towed to Sarli Motorsports where the incomprable Ben is now taking care of Tina. I've been having nightmares all weekend about having to rebuild my motor or having to find a new one altogether. Sucks, cause Tina has been running like a champ lately.
Well I just got a call from Ben. Turns out a frigging spark plug shot out, hit the valve cover and disentegrated the plastic tubing that seals/connectes it to the engine (a plastic tube connected to the coil pack). The tube got sucked down into the engine. Yikes! Ben has been able to recover 80% of the pieces. He is waiting on a borescope to see if there is anything else big inside. He is hoping that the pieces left were small enough to be demolished by the chain etc. (I dunno, I'm quoting here) and that we won't need to pull the valve cover off.
The point is the engine isn't dead!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!
And even if the valve cover comes off, it's good excuse for me to get those Evolution Motorsports headers on. So I'm pretty happy.
The moral of the story is, don't let Dan diffbreaker drive your car.
Very lightly used 997 GT2 sitting at main line Porsche. 175k. Be a baller Geiger!
In related news, decided not to pick up that C2S despite it being white with red leather. Chris had it exactly right, for that kind of money I should go turbo or GT3.

that squeak squeak, was a spark plug about to fly out of the engine?!
All I know is, if I was driving it on the 1st day from Philly ~ Georgia, and that happend.
I woulda just caught a flight home , and probably cry too.
I'm not sure if I just mistook the heat shield squeak for the new problem - the rattling spark plug, or if the squeak WAS the spark plug problem. Either way, I wouldn't have blamed you. I would have blamed Dan.

Can't wait to see what she sounds like with the headers
Thanks! The headers only go on if they have to go fishing in the engine for more pieces though. It's a toss up. It would be cool to get the headers on, but it would be nicer if they didn't have to crack the engine open.
