Both. Mostly it's plastic.
The metal pieces are smaller. It's both metal and aluminum. I did the magnet trick.

This is all accompanied by a low, almost imperceptible rattle at low rpms - when putting the clutch in.

Might be time for that turbo.

I would just like to go on record as believing aluminum to be a metal.

Off the record, change the oil more often than normal, keep an eye on the oil pressure and drive the ol girl till she pops. I'm willing to bet its gonna be a while.

Didn't she eat her rear main seal before Jakey gave her a new lease on life?

Bye Bye engine bearings... My 1st Subaru motor ate itself in a similar way. It was cheaper to get a new one than to try and fix it. I did an STI engine swap. Come to think of it, an EJ257 might fit in there
