SEATTLE, Washington (Reuters) -- A 17 year-old high school student faked the theft of his 2002 BMW M3 in order to collect insurance money to upgrade to a Bentley, police said on Thursday.

The teen, a student of Skyline High School in Sammamish, a suburb of Seattle, had reported the car stolen earlier this week, said Michael Chiu, a spokesman for the police in Bellevue, another suburb located between Seattle and Sammamish.

Police in another town found the $47,000 BMW being stripped and arrested four suspects, who connected the teen to the theft, leading to his arrest.

"That investigation led us to believe that he wanted to upgrade to a Bentley," Chiu said.

Bentleys, featured frequently in U.S. hip-hop videos, have a suggested retail price of $160,000 for the Continental GT coupe and $240,000 for the Arnage sedan.

The BMW was in the name of the teen's mother name but was used as his vehicle, Chiu said. The student was released to his mother, and prosecutors are considering charges.

there's no way he would be able to go from a m3 to a bentley on the insurance check

and even if he did, he wouldn't be able to maintain that car or even insure it for that matter, being a broke ass highschool student

Darn Kids... they don't think anymore... you supposed to whip the car clean, and then take it to DC.. let it sit for two days, then you don't have to worry about it anymore.. Cops will pass it about 50 times and never report it... Sometimes during the night, someone will strip that sucker clean...

Gotta love the nations capitol... did i spell that right???

Don't leave it near the sites... take it to South East... they will clean it good for you.. Not that i've ever done anything of that sort... (looking out the window...)

Kids just don't know how to get away with anythign anymore.. back in my day.. ok.. I'll spare everyone of my young fellow tails...

let's just say i've had my share of trouble... woohoo...

apparently it was indeed for a bentley. at least according to the car forum he posted on about his car getting "stolen".

You put the down payment if you are leasing it for the purchases of writing it off and yes people are able to write off Bentleys and Ferraris.

BTW lotto is now up to 205million.

Have you ever seen that show on MTV called "Rich Bitches"? I think that's what it's called. There's also another one called "Sweet 16", "Cribs" and a few others that just focus on the rich unabashedly flaunting their wealth. It's disgusting.

I do like seeing some of the nice cars/houses on cribs. But there are quite a bit of those people that bought their cars just to be cool. Travis Barker from Blink has a Yukon Denali XL with a solid front axle conversion and at least 20" of lift. He also had a sweet oldschool caddy.
