I agree. I'm fairly confident my Subaru STI with just bolt on mods would take my 'Vette of the line with the tires I have on right now: you can only do so much with street tires before they start to spin...
If you watch the video you can see the GTR comes off the line quite softly; I think the driver actually cared about this car and didn't launch it. The Vette, as far as I know, is completely stock down to the tires, and is automatic; I rented one a while ago and the automatic transmission on it was such a piece of shit (slow vague shifts) that I actually brought it back a day early. That said, getting that thing to fly off the line perfectly every time was as easy as just pushing the gas down from idle: if you don't load up the torque converter it doesn't spin and comes off pretty fast; Car and Driver tested its 0 -60 at 4.1 seconds
I really liked that video of the rental 'Vette on nitrous Vs the GTR, but the guy doing the nitrousing was a moron; he ran the shot into the engine without any additional fuel or tuning and as a result got a MUCH slower time than the car normally runs bone stock; the ECU was probably pulling timing like crazy because of that shot.
