This is what we are doing...

Independent Travel: Go-As-You-Please Scotland
Self-drive Vacation with B&Bs or Hotels
Sample Package: $441, 1 week, land only

Stay in B & Bs or first class hotels. These two programs are not interchangeable, but you can pre-purchase overnight stays in some of each category. You will receive an E-voucher with a control number for the relevant number of nights that you purchase.You may book as you travel through Scotland or book on the internet before leaving home.

Hertz self-drive car with unlimited mileage
Standard or automatic shift - full range of cars available
Pick up and drop off in Glasgow or Edinburgh (Location Service Charge of £25.85 applies to all rentals)
Third party insurance and government tax (VAT) on car rental
Save on full insurance by prepaying CDW and TPI
E-voucher for stays at either bed & breakfast properties or first class hotels
Full Scottish breakfast daily
All hotel rooms with private bath/ shower (B & Bs require a £4 per person supplemental payment)
First night prebooked by location (must be requested at time of booking)
Automobile Association 24-hour emergency service
B & B listing of 385 homes or Hotelpass listing of 125 hotels

Bed and Breakfast Program
Our B & B program features a superb selection of 385 quality bed & breakfast properties throughout Scotland. These family-owned homes are located in cities, towns or country areas enabling you to choose what suits you best. Some properties, but not all, offer rooms with private bathrooms at a supplement of UK£4 per person, payable to the homeowner.

Edinburgh Visit
The number of B & Bs and Hotelpass properties in Edinburgh is very limited and demand for rooms is very high, especially during the Festival in August. B & Bs charge a supplement of £6 per room, per night. We suggest that you consider taking our Edinburgh at Leisure program. These centrally located hotels will be prebooked for you and you will be able to use public transportation.

Hotelpass
Hotelpass offers 125 great hotels located throughout Scotland. First class hotels are located in towns, cities and countryside and offer amenities, which are listed in your hotel directory. Many hotels are set in delightful gardens and offer scenic views, health clubs or leisure facilities. You may upgrade to a selection of superior and deluxe properties — superior supplements are UK£5 per person and deluxe UK£10 per person per night

damn all that for $441?? airfare not included I'm assuming. Looks like a good vacation, make sure you beat that hertz like it owes you money

Starting at $441 per person. Air included. All depends upon where you fly from, what type of hotel, car etc. I expect we will end up paying about $1500 per person.

And I have to find a Scottish Graham Kilt whilst I am there.
