Default Catless sti...

this is for nick and chris, or whomever else knows sti info...

im about to purchase a sti, (and yes i will put ferrari ponys on it)
and im bringing over all my mods and that includes my turbo back (catless) exaust. from the research ive read on other subaru boards, ive heard of boost creep without using a cat, and ive heard if you boost creep on the STi you might blow the welds off the intake manifold and the floorboard will fall out...and then ill look like paul walker, and the mad scientist will have to put it back together, god i hate that movie.

here are the mods im bringing to the sti from the wrx
K&N short intake,
blitz fmic,
hks ssq bov,
greddy evo catback-
mid and down pipe are hks aswell.

gotta leave the chip behind,
if anyone here wants a used Vishnu chip with wiring harness, pm me

those must not be strong welds unless that has a lot of power behind it, so how does blowing a intake manifold kill the floorboards?

My advice to you:
no HKS dp, it is a pice of shit for anything besides mild WRX's (non STi), go with helix or invidia. DO NOT GO WITH B&B, they are complete fucks and build pice of shit equiptment. I know first hand.
keep stock TMIC unless your pushing more than 300whp
Don't go beyond short ram, if you want to sell your CAI do it! You will make some cash, then put some of it twards a short ram intake or get a K&N drop in filter and remove the silencer.
Then go UTEC for your piggyback.
BOV's don't matter yet

Nick

ps. if you want some good prices on parts give me a holla

sell the FMIC if you get bad weather. It is only good if you don't get winter road pos conditions.

To stop boost creep your best bet is to port the waste gate. I don't know where you live but boost creep gets worse in cold weather. My advise is to send your turbo to Jerry from Deadbolt he can help you out on porting the wastegate.

well, i could do it myself...or drive to north carolina. I live in philly man, theres not alot of speed shops in the city, but i have my sources. And nick, i thought a fmic was good for cold weather? i mean, we get a little snow in the winter but we get really hot in the summer, it's basicly all around here, but i dont know...we'll see

You could do it yourself but you would need to make a bigger flap to cover the ported hole. Or i am sure that you could find someone to do it local if you wanted. I mentioned Deadbolt cause I know the guys do nice work and are a well respected member of the Subaru community.

He meant snow/ice chunks can fuck up the FMIC.

If you go catless, you will get boost creep. It gets better with warmer, less dense air, but I still got it in 70 degree weather.

Also do what nick said in regards to your exhaust. And don't put the HKS SSQV on without recircing at least part of it. STi no likey. Ricer.

My FMIC took a beating last winter and we had a VERY weak winter. My car will never see another winter b/c of the FMIC, Ti exhaust, and new turbo. Also all the shit that goes in the hood scoop. If you want a bigger IC and drive your car in the winter I would suggest going with an APS or Spearco TMIC, they are the two biggest.

BTW... I got my wastegate mod done by Godspeed and had no issues. Now I have a very nice Garrett/slow boy racing GT-12 sitting at the foot of my bed.

this is kind of off topic, but WTF were they thinking using a pre-turbo cat on these? I was working on a friends WRX the other day and the turbo would not spool at all, so pulled everything off, and there were chunks of catalyst keeping the turbo from spinning.

PS ill see if hes interested in the chip, how much are you asking.

So that the car would be ULEV when it was cold. Tell your buddy to replace the up-pipe with a Crucial Racing up pipe.
