We all know that the STi started to get slower twards the end of the rally. Well as I found out later a ring in cylinder two had cracked due to a bad tune.
First off the engine is finished and sitting infront of the STi. I had my Axis stage II engine upgraded to a stage III short block consisting of:
2.5 L STi Semi-closed deck shortblock, standard sleeve liners, modified Axis Racing forged crankshaft, polished & balanced to 10,000 RPMs, Pauter 4340 chrome-moly forged rods, Axis Racing/CP forged pistons with Swain Tech Coatings, and a 8500 rev limit is recommended.
Axis stage II valvetrain that includes dual spring valvesprings, tanium retainers, new buckets, new shims (shim under bucket design), new keepers, new valve seals, and valve lapping procedure.
I also had the heads ported, 1mm oversized stainless steel SAE EVa (High Nickel alloy 21-4N) "one piece forged" valves, kelford avcs cams, ported oil and water pumps, hd timing belt, arp headstuds, and cometic head gaskets.
Here is the car as of January 11th 2007. It had been sitting there since the thursday before Labor Day 2006.

What the engine bay looked like after three months of sitting outside. Yes it was in the 30's and raining when we pushed it into the garage.

After pulling the intake manifold, charge pipes, intake, and battery.

The cracked magnus intake manifold with APS tumbler deletes, and PE850 injectors.
Magnus has declined to repair the manifold, so I will be having it repaired locally. Talk about great customer service...

The subie's home since January 11th and will be there for the next few weeks.

The car at the end of day one and it never left the ground.

WOW man, that looks like some major upgrading..
Good luck with everything, but I sure looks like you have everything undercontrol. Look forward to seeing you around this summer.
Very nice Nick.
I'm running your old UTEC now with speed density and turboxs map sensor and it's awesome.
We hit 34psi last night while tuning but maxxed out the injectors.
Can't wait to see your car on the rally.

Yeah, I am glad that the new ap is able to do the stuff utec has been doing for years with a few new features.

Worked on the car more tonight. Got the front bumper, headlights, and fmic off to make sure nothing gets damaged while pulling the motor.
Pulled another wiring harness, TiAL dump tube, downpipe, removed the a/c condensor, and un-bolted the engine.
Unfortunatly, look what I found in my coolant resivior...

got the engine pulled and some parts swapped from the old engine onto the new. The up-pipe is out in SF getting thermally coated. Once that gets back the engine will be ready to go back in. Hopefully start up will be within a week of drop in.
Oh, and I bought three cans of engine de-greaser to clean up the engine bay while it is empty. For those of you who remember the sever blow by from my catch can.

having an issue with the avcs, so I currently have them unplugged and it drives! I put over 100 miles on the car over the weekend. This week I am dropping 850cc injectors in it, cleaning it up, loading up a new map, and doing some tuning.
btw, I picked up street tuner also. :D

Running ap1 and just picked up street tuner. I think that an avcs oil line is clogged. Waiting untill it warms up to check it out. Otherwise the car just runs 5deg retarded at all times.

Nick, we've had two customers have clogged AVCS lines/solenoids as of late. There are small plastic filters in the banjo bolts on the heads/solenoids, and the lines tend to break/collect debris. Not that I'm trying to whore it out, but we sell a hard line delete which ties into the stock banjo bolts and is flexible stainless.
White Out

Yeah, I am going to pull the filters. That is most likely the culprate.

It is running like shit. I need to tune it badly. It should be running well very soon, then be getting a tune. :)
It is the APS DR650 front mount.
Here it is vs. the Perrin unit that was on the car when I bought it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/suboobaruWRseX/parts/APSvPerrin2.jpg

vs.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/suboobaruWRseX/STi%20WRB/3-084.jpg
The GT35R kit started out as a UR kit. Now it is a UR up/down, and one of the charge pipe's. The DR650 is bigger than UR's, hence the reason I went through all the hell to keep it vs. getting the UR kit. About 6 months after I built the car UR came out with an APS fmic kit...

Well as an update, the car is on the road.
As of the first week of July the STi was back on the road!!!! But it was still on the oem ecu and 550cc injectors. From June through August, I was fighting with Hydra issues.
Finally the friday of the rally I got the hydra/850cc injectors to work!
Unfortunately I started law school and have no time to give to the car. So it is still in dire need of a tune, but now it drives/idles very well (still no wot, running on wg pressure).
Then there is the issue of leaking coolant. I have replaced the thermostat gasket, and it still leaks... Like I said, no time. So I have been topping it off with water before I drive it. Now there are only two spots for the coolant to leak from 1. the thermostat housing 2. the water pump/block. Hopefully in a few weeks I will have the oppertuninty to spend some time under the car and find exactly where the leak is coming from. I am debating on waiting for a tune (have to drive to chicago) until spring and throwing it in storage.
Other recent changes: tires, lugnuts, v1 lip, STi ti shift knob, removal of maf, final removing of '06 aka sticker left overs, clay & wax.

It was tuned. Unfortunately it needs more fuel. So it made max power at 6500rpm, it is also my red line. Sucks when the motor is built to spin to 8000rpm. Anyways, here is the dyno plot.

When you say you're having WOT issues, do u mean it's stalling when you floor it?
Just a random thought: did you change the carpets at all? Jarrett changed the carpets on his sti (my 07 rally car) and it allowed for the gas pedal to come down too far, which was making a fuel cut

Nick
Damn, you ran out of fuel at 6500rpm on 850's???
Was this with the SMC kit or without?
If not, get that sucker back on there or another alky kit. If you want I have a brand new hfs kit in the box.
From what I've seen P&L's dyno reads a bit high so 440whp trapping 130's is a bit of a surprise. In this area it takes 500-550whp on a Subaru to trap anything over 130mph. Actually definitely more along the lines of 550whp to even get close to 130mph.
For reference my 07rally set-up was an fpred with dw 740cc injectors, smc kit all with a high flow cat.
Made 435whp on a dyno dynamics and idc's were in the 80's at 25psi.

I run out of fuel at 6500rpm, that is my issue. Some 1000cc+ injectors and another fuel pump would fix that.
Still blue carpet.

No alky, straight 93 at 24psi.
I don't want to have to deal with alky on this car. It was too much of a pita back in '06.
P&L has a few cars in the 440awhp range trapping 130's in the midwest. So it is a good generalization.
