2004 S60r with Stage 2 IPD. HD TCV, Factory lines. Lucky and one of our local Volvo Mechanic/Guru's have already voiced opinion, just seeing if any other ideas were out there before I start taking most of this stuff apart.

The idle is a bit rough.

The car does use a bit of oil, and a tiny bit of coolant. 60k miles and using Amsoil 5-30 or 10-30

Pulled a code with the Softloader of ECM-262A. (Maf related , lean trim at idle)

I have used a K&N Filter before, and now using the Evolve AMS with the big red filter.

There is no coolant in the oil. There is no oil in my coolant.

The crankcase does show vaccum at idle (rubber glove over oil fill hole, and the glove was getting sucked in).

The one odd thing, my Blitz Boost gauge now shows less negative vaccum at idle. It used to read -.07 BARand below since its as low as the gauge will go.

Now it reads about -.03 BAR of Boost at idle.

Plugs have been replaced within 10k miles.

The low oil message has come on once already, and had to add about a 1/2 quart.

I do have an exhaust leak but, I don't think its relevant. The car does not have a Catylic converter, so its a bit hard to tell if the exhaust smells weirder/toxic than normal. (The car hasn't had a cat in over a year, and the rear o2 code for me is normal)

I *MAY* have a vaccum leak at the TCV, I didn't use any of the clamps when I installed the IPD TCV and as far as I recall some of the hoses were a bit hardened. That could be it. I'll replace them with silicone ones anyway.

I was thinking it could be the MAF sensor, or the PCV system? White smoke/leaking turbo?

My plan of attack as I have the AKA Rally comming up in August which is just about 3000 miles form Savannah Georgia, to Monterey Bay California.

At this rate, at 60k miles I'm planning to do some engine maintenance.
-Replace all PCV related components/hoses along with the black box under the intake manifold.
-Remove and clean the Throttle body & Intake manifold, replace gaskets too.
-Clean, then Replace MAF if necessary (otherwise bring it extra)
-Replace and gap plugs a bit smaller.
-Replace exhaust gaskets with graphite ones which form a bit better to uneven surfaces
-Drain, and clean out intercooler of any oil.
-Replace TCV lines with Silicone lines.

Before doing all the maintenance, I'll be checking plugs and checking compression to figure out if I have anything leaking.

Interesting.

Ls1s inherently burn a little oil on there own, a lot of times if you have a high performance engine and rev it past ~3500rpm normally you will lose some oil. I've had this happen with coolant before too.

I know this doesn't help, but good luck!

I'm not too familiar with volvo's but the high idle and lean code points directly to a vacuum leak. I assume your gas mileage has decreased? Not too sure about the oil and coolant, might be a seperate issue? Obviously being lean is going to cause it to run a little hotter, maybe there is a correlation there.

I'm totally suspecting 2 issues here.

Vaccum leak or dirty/failing MAF

Oil and coolant, probably being burned off by a tired turbo.

Cleaning the MAF might be the easiest thing to do first. You should build a pressure tester and look for a leak too though.

Just purchased CRC Mass Airflow Cleaner from Napa auto parts.

Gonna try it tonight.

I did something similar to this, but used a regulator and gauge right on the end cap.

If you're on a budget you could always do the tennis ball trick.

I burn a quart of mobil 1 0W40 ever 750 miles (eating C63's) ~ 1500 miles( eating M3's)

and its totally normal.

on the plus side im getting 420+miles to a tank of gas (23gallon tank)

**spirited driving. :AR15firin:AR15firin

hope you get it worked out

Hey Larry, that's bugger, my BMW eats oil and coolant too, but once again, its a BMW V8.

I've had the same thing happened to me on my 740, it turns out to be:
MAF
valve cover gasket

the MAF was kinda coo-coo from the K&N's oil, then the valve cover gasket started to leak, which affected all the vaccum, I did most of the gasket when I swap the head & cam, good as new.

Oddly enough I killed 3 2002 Nissan Maxima MAF sensors...

I finally switched to the 3.0L MAF sensor and had a CEL on forver.

I don't think MAF sensors like me.

Do a leak down test and a smoke test, how's the turbo doing?

So far things i've found.

Dirty ass MAF, cleaned with CRC cleaner.

Missing bolt on downpipe ~ turbo connection, another completly loose.

That is probably causing outside o2 to be introduced to the 1st o2 sensor which isn't helping.

So it sounds like you can go on the rally now!

dude, I have no motor, no turbo and a glass of a trans and I plan on being on the rally!

I have a major computer issue with my volvo.

After replacing the transmission I still get transmission error codes and lights during the summer months. Once I turn on my AC I have 3 minutes before my transmission error light turns on.
