Now the choice I have to make (on the Corrado) is G60 or VR6. I'll be damned if i can find one around here. On the GTI I think I will go for the 1.8T.

Go for the Corrado VR4 or what they call the SLC I believe. Everyone that I have ever talked to that owns one of those cars absolutely loves it. They find it to be an wonderful and reliable car. You could get the G60 and upgrade the turbo and all that but what people say about the VR6 is that it is reliable as Hell!!!!
I say the Corrado because they aren't made anymore and everyone will stare at you while you are driving it. GTI's are hot but they are all over.

definately the corrado over the gti, they are getting harder to find tho. both corrados are great machines but VR6/SLC is the one i'd chose over the g60 any day(unless i didnt have the extra cash). a good slc runs around $8ooo or $1oooo or so. the g60 is about $4ooo to$6ooo or so. but even tho g60 it cheaper to buy, maintain, tune, lighter and almost as much power stock, the VR6 engine has a much higher potential output but n.b.--->it doesnt come cheap.
unless money is an object SLC all the way

if that were g60 id jump on it, but an SLC... i dont know im kinda iffy about that one. i know someone who had one in pretty good condition and he got $7k for his SLC.

I own a SLC Corrado, and it is a very fun car. Rare... yes! But well worth searching for. I bought mine in South Carolina, and then drove it all the way home to Kansas City. I could never find one locally that was nice enough. All the G60 cars are usually pretty rough, and nobody seems to take care of them very well because of the cost of parts. I have always heard bad things about the factory superchargers going bad, especially after doing any small modifications. I figured I'd get the best of both worlds by getting the VR6 engine, and then adding a supercharger, or turbo, to that.

I'd suggest neither. Some of my friends are VW guys and have had both and had nothing but probs with both. I'd avoid modding an older VW. Especially the Corrado.

We have a good number of them in Va. I see them on a everyday( not like honda civic everyday but a good amount.) All that I have seen are VR6.

Absolutely go with a SLC rado, the 12 valve VR6 motor is reliable tourqey as hell and will respond very well to basic bolt ons. The G60 is a strong contender but if you do not mind having your car break every other week, it would be a fun car to upgrade the charger or even take the charger off and go turbo. The bottom end on both are built like tanks. Good luck, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

i use to be all about vw.......my 1st car was a 87 mk2 jetta that lasted a year....i sold that and bought a corrado g60, best thing about it was that the engiine was already built for F/I...so i took the superchargher off and put in a custom turbo setup, wit a small t3/t4 turbo and it was faster then the charger and i got to hear PPPPSSSSSSHHHHH........then sold that and bought a 97 jetta 2.0........got bored of it in a year and bought a 97 jetta glx vr6......decided to not get power out of this one and just kept it basically stock.....i had the eurosport cool flow, magnaflow exhaust and weitec coilovers on it, and swaped the whole ugly tan leather interior, sold it on ebay and bought black leather interior......then took the whole top half off, including the headliner...and painted it black......so it was completelly black inside.......the only vw im missing is the 1.8t... i just recentlly sold it and bought a bmw 323 convertible
i would say go wit the corrado, u get the cool wing that comes up at 40mph
u could find them on ebay or on this site www.vwvortex.com people on there are always selling them
