I'll start this thread with a little story. Sunday morning during a light snow storm in DC. I'm heading home after a 12 hr shift at work. There's snow on the ground about an inch or two. Heading toward's 14th Street bridge (people fimilar with DC) I take one of the tunnels leading to New York Avenue doing about 20 about a curvy on ramp. four cars are in front of me doing about the same speed. Ramp is covered with snow. All of a sudden I see a SUV coming behind me and the tail begins to slip away from the driver. for a split second I froze........ I froze not to say I'm going to get hit, I froze to look at my options to avoid the accident. I had an open lane to my left, but the majority of the SUV was that way (the front end). the tail end was about 10 ft from my bumper moving quickly. I floored it and crammed to the right wall as close as I could missing the SUV's whip-out. The SUV slams into the wall front first. Everyone in the SUV is ok, and all the other drivers (it's DC) keep driving. No one else stops.. They guy was cool, and was greatful that I stopped.. He was able to drive the truck away from the scene...
Of course I'm freaked out now, cause I'm thinking what if I didn't look up....Does this show signs of good driving or was I just lucky???

Both... I was almost ran over by a fuck in a Silverado today. Guess my wing isn't big enough.
Nick
dont think back man! you'll drive yourself nuts
i agree its both, quick reactions and the luck that you had the opportunity to get away.

just tack a gt wing on top they'll see you then.
I swear to god theres a car driving around my town that is the worlds biggest rice mobile. The guy has a stock lip spoiler on his car, than on top of that he tacked on a gull wing, then a gt wing on top of that, its the most rediculous thing ive ever seen.

seen many wipe out, also being in the dc area, every1 thinks they can drive. And what we see is other drivers who has 4x4 speeding and not respecting the weather. Guess you where lucky. being calm and knowing your exit routs helped you not get hurt nor damage your car

Sometimes I think cars are tailgating me, but it's really my wing.

Sometimes I think cars are tailgating me, but it's really my wing.
It took me forever to get used to it and the hood scoop. I bought the car in philly and drove it back to MI. Stared at the i/c scoop for the majority of the drive.

You shouldn't question your driving skills. Hesitation is the first sign of a bad driver.

I don't know thinking out your next move, isn't nessicarily a bad move. Personaly I think the fact that he avoided the accident entirely is a sign that hes a rather capable driver.

I don't questions my driving skillz. I know what I can and can't do. Improving every day as a result. Hesitation can also be the difference in life and death sometimes. It always depends on the situation.
Secondly, it's kinda like a rush when you have people with better driving skill than you who commend you on a given situation.. White-out's Both good driver and lucky comment and pandaspeed's rather capable driver are like verbal trophies. Gives you additional inspiration in those low times.
The original post was not to measure my thoughts of my driving skills.. It was to get an outside view on the situation. Everyone needs inspiration... I want to be like Chris when i grow up... =-)

haha first off thanks for the boost to my ego (better driving skill), secondly thinking out your next move is the most important aspect of driving at high speeds, and most definitly in racing. When people dont plan a few steps ahead, accidents occur and people die.
I commend you for keeping you head and avoiding the whole thing. Besides you can't get in an accident, the limo just whouldn't be the same with you in a body cast.

But I really do need to get rid of this speed monkey... Avoided another accident yesterday... Two SUV's were racing on a regular street in Baltimore and i wanted to join in.. Well this cab came from nowhere - ran a light and took out the truck on my right. I down shifted and swerved to the left... Guys were ok, but the cab was in pretty bad shape... I gotta learn to pick my battles better... Darn speed monkey...
I must reform.. hahahahaha yeah right.. I'll just find some race tracks in maryland, take a few driving courses and practice more out there.. City streets aren't for racing..

god man, good thing shaun and i will be driving, you seem like you are just a magnet for accidents. Yeah racing on the street is definitly a bad idea, keep it on the track.

Only recently... Full Moon... hahahah...But it's all what you focus on.. I haven't had a accident since '97, knock on wood... It's just the stupid people of the world like to follow intelligance and try to make money the wrong way... think about it.. both incidents were avoided by me where I could have easily gotten money from Insurance claims... NEW CAR - the EVO VIII... yeah.. hahahah.. No i actually want to build my car up so I can learn more.. the EVO has a lot of sport package equipment already loaded, and I wouldn't get the experience of putting it on myself (my shop) yeah, it will cost a lot more to get the specs the same but Education isn't cheap these days..

true i cant talk, i had my first wreck in october. When you say my shop, are you thinking of starting your own tunning garage?
bcflick
02-02-2005, 09:13 PM
oh reah.... and then some...even if i take just the business portion of it... it's hard to find a shop that wont rip you off. no anytime soon. maybe in 2 years. waiting for bush to get out of office and war to end...

good luck man its hard work but very well worth it i used to be a supervisor at a body/performance shop in my area and we went through many people (if its not in your heart and you dont have a love for cars its not worth it and many people dont know how much hard work it is .... but after its said and done nothin beats the satisfaction u get when u see people stare and comment on a car u helped to build)

Yeah. i definatly have the drive.. plus it's something you can pass down to your kids.. the art that a person puts into the tunning of a car... it's beautiful.. I've always loved cars... Born driver.. but have only been turned onto the tunning part of it less than a year ago... It's here to stay... Thanks for the vote of confidence and the words of wisdom... Gotta have a plan and a good follow through to be successful in life.. And I don't know how to do anything else but be successful.. Don't know the meaning of failure... (please no smart guys who want to tell me the meaning.. thanks..)

Hahahah! Good times on the AKA Rally board. Who was it that had the theory last year that if you drive fast enough, you can actually squeeze between the two spaces between a car, when you normally wouldn't fit?

speaking of racing i can now chock another one to my belt. I was driving my roomates to a bar when i pulled up next to this redneck truck at the light, i was trying to baby out my tank so i wasn't even planing on racing the guy, anyway the light changes, and the guy takes off. Well my racing pride whouldn't let them get the best of me so i dropped gears and flored it redline.. shift.. redline shift, and came back from about a three car length disadvantage, unfortunatly i burned a f - load of gas :(

You must learn to pick your battles young grasshopper...
I would have just gone to the bar... Then again.. I would have probably done about the same thing... I would have waited for the next light. then burn them up... OOOohHH YEAHHH... SPEED MONKEY!!!

man you know you have money hidding from youself in your left shoe... I think it's time to pull it out and fill up the car..
DUDE I BURNED THIS MUSTANG OUT ON 695 TONIGHT... IT WAS FUNNY AS CRAP.. He was heating up on my left side, and kinda blew past me I was doing like 50.. Hopped over and matched his speed - right next to him.. Like about 70, punched it into 5th and left him.. OK.. he wasn't trying to beat me... but it felt good anyway..
HAHAHAH

yeah i have cash for gas hidden away, but its in the bank not my shoe. The best ive done was beating this 1982 vette, we both inched the line, and when it changed we both let it rip, i dont know if he slipped a gear, or what happened but he fell behind, only time ive ever seen an accord beat a vette, and most likely the last time it will ever happen.

The driver of the vette saw a bird drop a bomb on his car and he got distracted.. Pulled over to the side, took out his snipper ripple and got one shot off taken the bird out... turned to the side and saw you way down the road.. slammed his hand against his roof and tossed the gun on the seat... 'Darn bird'
