Should i Buy it???

2003 EVO VIII, 20 k miles, five speed, mint condition for 25 k,

I'm torn should i buy this one, or save up for the MR edition. What do you guys think?

As much as i love her, its time to put the 91 accord se to rest.

Wow, I thought that the EVO was cheaper than $28,000 for an RS new. What kind of mileage on the car?

Nick

ps. As an STi owner, I must say buy a used STi over a used EVO.

pandaspeed
01-12-2005, 01:36 AM
the new evo is 30, the mr is 32, and the stripped down model is 28, i think like 20 thousand miles

White Out
01-12-2005, 01:38 AM
You should be able to find an evo with under 20,000 miles for $25,000. Check ebay, auto trader, and evo forums.

Nick

ps. buy a subaru

pandaspeed

Should i just scrap the whole evo thing and shell out the cash for an sti? the ladies love the pimp gold rims.

you should get a Z and put both of them to shame on the highway

White Out

I would go for the STi. A really good subaru site is www.wrxfanatics.com . For finding a used STi www.nasioc.com is good, but there are alot of asshats there. The EVO is better around turns, the STi is better in a straight line and a better daily driver. I would suggest going to your local dealers and testing both cars to see which you like better. Then go find one online for a good price. I live in MI and my STi is from Philly.

not true, get a used 90-96 300zx tt I got mine with 70k miles for 12 grand, then you just use the rest to maintain and mod. Like replace vaccuum lines and shit. A reliable 400+rwhp 300zx can be had for about 17k.

pandaspeed
01-12-2005, 01:52 AM
really?? thats worth looking into. After all my work with the accord, that might be the way to go. At first i thought you were talking about tunning a 350-z, but a 300 zx might be within reach.

hey gotbo0st
01-12-2005, 02:00 AM
yea it's definitely worth looking into, everyone usually overlooks the 300's

You could have a VERY nice and VERY powerful (450rwhp) Z for under 20k

pandaspeed

The trick is going to be tracking one down through a dealership so i can finance it, I can afford it, just not all at once, dont quite have thirteen grand to drop on ebay in one fell swoop.

Another turbo 6 that is fast and reliable is the Grand National.

I just finished browsing through ebay and it was sad as hell man. They have all these modded 300 z's where they through all the money in the engine, and have stock seats, and brakes. The ricer mentality strikes again. Well see what their turbos do for them when they flip their cars.

hey gotbo0st
01-12-2005, 02:05 AM
try getting a loan from a bank if you cant find one at a dealership

I found mine on Autotrader.com

Also check the classifieds section on www.Twinturbo.net , someone is usually selling a car there, and the site is a virtual mecca of Z information.

these guys were running stock shoulder belts, as long as you have five points, or four points your fine, but stock belts dont cut it man, not with 400 horsepower, hell i put them in my accord an it only had 240 horsepower

When looking for a used sports car try to find the oldest owner possible. Most of them take good care of their cars and don't beat the shit out of them.

Nick

But in spring the roll cage and 4 pts are goin in as part of my 2nd stage in mods.

You should hear a GN, no BOV. The air running back through the turbo when you let off scares the shit out of alot of people.

hey gotbo0st
01-12-2005, 02:22 AM
I would be more concerned with the back pressure suddenly stopping the turbine wheel, no quicker way to fry a turbo

pandaspeed
01-12-2005, 02:24 AM
no blowing the line to your intercooler cooks them faster, the whole thing disentigrated

White Out
01-12-2005, 02:31 AM
It is the way of the GN. VERY FEW gn owners have BOV's. My oem turbo lasted ~57,000 miles. I now have a bigger one. The turbo only has oil going through it too, no coolant. I need to invest in a turbo timer.

Air or Engine? The stock i/c has been good for 10 second runs. So I plan on keeping that for a little while longer, then going for a FMIC.

10 sec.s isn;t bad but what do you do if you want to open her up on the highway, you may want to consider going dual intercoolers. Your running dual sequential turbos right?

I have one big turbo. The i/c is kind of fmic. It sits behind the radiator in its own little closed housing with a fan off the crank behind it and a scoop under the front of the car pulling air into it. It is under the license plate.

you can always take the pikes peak solution, and set up a direct water misting- sprayer system, but that might be a little bit drastic

MrEdS4
01-12-2005, 10:46 AM
Evos are good fun, and I used to really enjoy driving them but after I drove my S4 for about a year I drove one and it felt much slower than my S4. Obviously the interior of the S4 is a lot nicer and admittantly the maintenance will be more but I think that you would enjoy the car more. Stock is 250 hp, ecu change gets you 320 for a few hundred bucks, swap the turbos and get 450 hp. You can get a nice 2000-2001 for around 20, 15-17 if you don't mind some miles.

Also, 4 or 5 point belts are not a good idea without a rollcage. If you tied down and unable to move side to side during a roll over situation you are at a greater risk of head injury. 3 point belts are stock for a reason.

It would need some sort of harness bar. The shoulder harnesses have to be mounted higher up in the car, not to the floor. Speedware/Sparco makes a nice bar for the Subaru's.

Audi's suck to mod, once you start modding reliability goes down the crapper, not that it's very high to begin with tho...

pandaspeed
01-12-2005, 06:13 PM
yeah if you dont put in a shoulder bar when you roll your body pulls against itself in all the wrong directions, putting mad stress on your shoulders, and neck

Another question do you think an evo could handle light towing, half the reason i still have the accord is because i have to tow my race boats to competitions. Their light though, 500 pounds for 17 foot boats including the mast and rigging, and 500 for the trailer.

diablesse
01-18-2005, 11:13 AM
that must be quite a sight. Your accord towing a boat?

pandaspeed

pandaspeed
01-19-2005, 04:53 PM
how fast have you gotten it up to?

With the trailer about 85, could go faster, but if i crashed I'd lose not only my car, but my race boat. With out the trailer ive done about 110, i had stock suspension, and normal street tires back than and didn't want to push it. Also didn't have, and still don't have a radar detector, I need to correct that pronto.

White Out
01-20-2005, 10:55 AM
I've drive with my JetSki trailer at 80mph on the highway and speed up every once in a while. Once I had a tire shread on it while doin 80 around a turn. That was a fun experience.
