Hey guys I'm hostng a Runway event on Friday October 30th from 12 - 3 pm at an airport in Western NJ. About 1 1/2 hours west of the George Washington Bridge. It's 1/2 mile long and 60 ft. wide. There will be food there and the event will also be filmed for DVD. If you are interested let me know.

Greg it's only a 1/2 mile long? What can you hit on it?

In my car I'm hoping 150 - 160. We have a vbox and radar gun there. It's going to be a fun day.

+1 I'd like to check out where you guys are running before coming down. Feel free to PM it if you don't want it posted.
I'm concerned a little guys. 150 mph is a lot of speed to scrub off. I checked some older data from Car and Driver's Supercar challenge 2004 and to stop from 150 mph takes anywhere from 600-750 feet (newest I could find). This is at full force braking in a controlled environment that is probably better than the airstrip.
A half mile is 2640 feet. A quarter mile is 1320. At 1320, most of the cars won't make 120 mph (for reference a Ferrari F430 Scuderia in 11.6 at 127, and Audi R8 v10 does it in 11.7 at 122). So you've still got another 30 mph to go (at least). The Ferrari takes an additional 5.3 seconds to get to 150 from the 127 its at in the quarter mile. At 127 mph, you're covering 186 feet per second. So those additional 5.3 seconds add another 985.8 feet of distance. So we've got...
Quarter (120 mph) + Dist to get to 150 + braking =
1320 + 985.8 + 700 = 3005.8 feet. You're about 400 feet into the weeds. And thats if you're in a vehicle with Scuderia-like performance.
I've made some assumptions, I know, but I think they are all result in a lower total distance.
Please someone point out my mistakes here - it's been a long day at work.

Alan, you are absolutely right. And from our Salt Flats experience, we learned that most peole didn't top out until close to the 2nd mile mark.
Hopefully there will be markers showing where you should start breaking, and lots of test passes so that no one goes hurtling over the side a la that poor M5 kid in florida.
A small runway is only cool for burnouts and autox.
I will come to watch people run out of braking room and fly off the runway.

Plabs should go, I am sure his super vette could do 200mph and stop before the runway ends. We all know his vette is the best car ever made.

That half mile will only allow my beast to reach 45 maybe 46.
Maybe for safety's sake I'll have plabs CNC me an arresting parachute[my road racing tires don't like hard braking]

Sorry, I'm in Michigan for the next two weeks.
Otherwise I'd be down. 1/2 mile sounds fun.

1/2 mile to 150 in nearly ANY car.... "super" or not you're going to run out of braking room.

I hate to jump on the hate train, but Robbie is correct. Even e60 M5's are only hitting 165ish in the Texas Mile.

I assume you're referring to the Victory Brewing rally. Good chance I will be able to attend. Might only make it to the Brewery though.
