Is your car caged?

Is your car caged?

no sir but after I'm done with the mods in the next couple of weeks it's going to have to get a welded cage if I'm going to track it. I have been toying with the idea of putting in the cusco 6 point cage though :D

Cusco 6 point's are junk.

Get a custom weld in, or please get rid of the harnesses. I'd hate to see you die if you had an accident :(

I have a harness bar that wraps around the back of the seats. The harnesses are wrapped around that harness bar according to sparco specs. I'll try to source up a better looking picture of it.

I was able to find these on my comp, you can see where the bar connects to the b-pillar:

found a couple better pictures of the car and updated my post with those pics as well

Oh, I realize. But here's the deal, harnesses are built to keep you secured to the seat. In a rollover, your head stays straight up with your back in line, rather than sliding/slumping as it would with a stock 3 point. Meaning, you stay in a "normal" seating position while the roof crushes you. You don't slide down and out as a standard 3 point allows you to. Without a cage your car in it's current configuration is a death trap. I'm not trying to be an ass I've just seen this so many times (and improperly installed harnesses), safety with "motorsports" parts is a HUGE concern of mine. I've had to fix sooo much stuff in the past and every time someone gets injured using this stuff in the wrong way it shines negatively on the entire hobby/sport. Ya know?

oh I know you're not trying to be an ass and I absolutely appreciate your concern and feedback. Moreso the reason I've been toying with the idea of getting a cage installed just looking for the ability to maintain the stock interior and functionality as well. lot to ask for but I'm hoping it can be done.

You cannot install a SAFE cage and keep the back seats. If I were you, I'd ditch the harnesses and use the stock belts. Because once you install a cage you need to add a bunch of other safety stuff to keep you safe from the cage.

Another thing you are missing is that if you install a cage, and then get in a collision, particularly a side impact, your head is going to smack a steel pipe; it happened to a guy on the subaru site (NASIOC) and his skull split open; he's still in a wheelchair.
I wouldn't ride in a caged car without a helmet, and because of that I wouldn't cage my street car... You have to remember that automakers spend millions of dollars certifying these vehicles to be acceptably safe in a collision just the way they are. Adding a few race parts more often than not makes them less safe.
My 2 cents worth, and I hope I'm not coming across as a prick. I wanted a cage in my car because it runs faster than 11.5 at the strip, but decided it was not worth it since it is a daily driver.

^ not at all man I hear ya. My hits mid to low 11's but the bar and harnesses are more there for a show/bling purpose. I still retained my stock belts and on occassion do I sometimes put the harnesses on. Passengers always wear the stock belts without question and I do as well. Part of the reason why I really don't want to track the car because of the mandated cage and I would have to give up alot in order to do that. I have a beater and the evo now isn't my DD anymore but it's still the functionality of having the interior and all which I would like to retain.

e-town requires a cage in the vehicle if you under 11.2- 11.3 I believe. Don't quote me on that time for sure. Also the new rule of if you have an aftermarket turbo kit a fire jacket is mandatory.

ElectricEvoIX

just spoke to e-town, anything quicker than 10.00 needs a full cage, anything quicker than 11.5 needs a harness bar with harnesses. Also if you trap quicker than 135 they'll break ur balls about it.

Oh, 1/4 mile. Blah.

my thoughts exactly, these cars were built for the twisties not for doing a 6200 launch. Granted it's fun but I don't fee like dumping 6k in drivetrain parts because I snapped a driveshaft and a diff taking off from the line.
