Anyone have any knowledge of older Corvettes? When Dan and I went to look at a Mustang, we passed by one of these on the road. I actually really liked it. Probably 1970's-ish. They kinda remind me of Batman.

I think maybe they have a really long front. I didn't really notice that the mustang did until I drove it. But I like the 70's ones and they have power steering!!!!!

Well there was the C1 (1953 - 1962):

C2 ('63 - 67, also known as "Stingray"):

You probably saw a C3. Like all other Corvettes it is a lightweight, all fibreglass bodied front engined, rear wheel drive sportscar. The early ones were BEASTS, with engines all the way up to a 7L V8 putting out 525HP. Those, like the C1 and C2 corvettes, are unnatainable to most of us. The later ones can be found for cheap but have engines ranging from pityful (How about a 165horsepower V8 in 1975) to very poor (200hp for most of the later ones). The interior, like most other old 'Vettes, will suck. Handling and braking is going to be better than most cars of that era, which is like saying someone is "pretty tall for being a midget"... Personally if I wanted an older 'Vette I would get a C4; they look sharp, are fast, handle well and a nice one can be had for around 8grand.

From the description you gave me Katie, I would have guessed you were talking about the Stingray. I actually liked that corvette.

You can get a c3 75-82 dirt cheap. I'm talking a mint one with 50K for ~6K. Then you can swap in an LSx, 6 speed, upgrade the brakes and have a really fun, cool classic for sub 15K.

You're talking about swapping an OBD-2 engine into a carburatted car though... The amount of wiring you will have to run will be incredible... I think it will probably cost 15k in parts, but once you throw in labor...
Well, lets just say that an LS3 powered Stingray from a reputable company costs around 90K..
It would be much cheaper and easier to just upgrade the existing engine.

If you purchased a motor with the wiring harness it wouldn't be that hard. You can also make an LSx motor *gasp* carbed! (Reference Edelbrock)
I wouldn't carb a LS1 myself, but if your overly concerned with wiring it is an option.
Oh and if your gears are now spinning and your asking how to add a distributor, MSD provides the answers to that!
Though your correct about building the current engine as a old school 350 is just about the cheapest engine on the planet to build.

My dad has a 74' stingray. I love that thing better than any other corvette I have ridden in. The late 70's early 80's corvettes had no power at all.

The car we saw was a C3, I like that body with the big fenders. Of course it's the slowest of the lot but like you guys said, that's an easy fix!
How bout this chocolate brown one haha:http://images.traderpub.net/img/10/dealer/814684/90449831_1.jpg

Hahaha... Well, I swapped an OBD-2 engine into a car that was already OBD-2, but the wiring harness had to be changed.. Simple, right?

Now imagine that on a car that never had any wiring in the first place?
I'd build up the 350 and do fuel injection on it ;)

The 70's had some really bad years for Vette's.
180hp, 3700 pounds, rust buckets, bad.
Read this thread before you even think about it.

A little more info on a swap: Stole form LS2 engine installed in C3? - SmokinVette.com Forums
1. first thing youll need is motor mount adapters so you can bolt up
to your stock chevy motor mounts.2 places that i know of http://www.hotrodlane.cc/ and http://www.vetteworksonline.com/cata...13acddacaae 7 i got mine from dan at vetteworks.
2. next is wiring harness and pcm, alot of people order a harness already made for around $550,i think its a waste of money,i took a stock 99 fbody harness $75 and hooked up 5 hot wires and a few grounds.I made a separate fuse box for the hot wires.I bought a pcm from jesse at wait4meperformance who tuned it for me for what i had in the car plus had the vats turned off for the security.Started on first try.
3.exhaust theres only afew options out there fbody exhaust manifolds,or build your own headers or do what i did and modified my sidepipes and welded on ls1 flanges that i bought from the dealer for $15 a side.It takes alittle work getting the tubes to fit the new ls1 pattern and alot of trial and error fitting them in the car but boy does it make a ls1 sound great.
4.accessorys,meaning pulleys alt.power steering etc....try and stick with firebird or camaro stuff,i had c5 brackets first but not worth the effort getting them to work, i switched to fbody. Also oil pan stick with fbody pan ,i used a truck oil pan from a 5.3 had to cut it and modify it it was too low and scraped the ground on hard bumps.
5.fuel supply.you can do 2 things modify your tank and use an intank late model pump or frame mount,i did both and switched to frame mount now.Without baffles intank i ran pump dry on hard stop and killed a walbro255 pump.As far as fuel lines and filter, use a 99 corvette fuel filter/regulator,there combined,it has a inlet on one side plus the return comes right back off of it into your tank, then single 3/8 line going to fuel rail.i can get part numbers for that also.
6.ok transmission, this is your choice, you can use anything you want, turbo 350,400,200r4,700r4,5 speed 6 speed 4l60e etc...they all bolt up im using a 700r4 since i already built it up for my old motor. The ls motors use only 5 bolts to bolt the trnsmission up one on passenger side isnt used, dont try and drill it out either. It works fine with 5 bolts. Now if your using anything else besides 4l60e or a 6 speed then youll need a crankshaft spacer and 6 longer bolts from the dealer .Whats this does is help align the hub of the convertor into it,since the ls cranks are shorter. You use a stock ls1 starter also.
Now alot of guys want to do the swap but dont have tons of money ,all ill say is search everywhere for the best deals, the forum for sale sections, ebay, friends etc...i did my whole swap including building my ls1 from a brand new bare block for $1800.ls1tech is another good place for parts cheap .I basically did this swap on a budget to prove it can be done cheap not $5000 that i see guys spending.I have a 99 block,2004 c5 crank ,rods, pistons, heads,2002 ls6 intake and injectors and throttle body,99 harness and pcm.Hope thsi helps some and if you have questions just ask.

Holy Jesus! Why do I have to like the slow one? But I'm still not sure. They are less expensive then the mustangs, but I still like mustangs better. I think I might have to wait until I have my own garage so I have somewhere to keep it!

slow is all relative, the great thing about American cars is that they get fast cheap
