can anyone make a recommendation? What makes a good scanner... I need to pick one up.

The first one looks a lot like the one I got from Advanced Auto, except mine has a few more buttons for menu navigation and such. Mine was $110 I think.
Looks like you are getting a good deal on either one of these. I don't think you could lose with either of them as long as they read the codes and let you clear them.
