You can now carry a loaded gun in US National parks (if you are legally licensed to in the state). Chalk one up for the NRA, they are getting a lot of credit for this being passed.

http://news.aol.com/main/politics/article/guns-in-national-parks/479231

"The NRA is basically taking over the House and Senate," said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., a leading gun-control supporter. "If the NRA wins, the American people are going to be the ones who lose."

Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash., said liberals might believe that, "but the American people won't buy it."

"The fact is American gun owners are simply citizens who want to exercise their Second Amendment rights without running into confusing red tape," Hastings said.

FYI Bush pushed this through and then the Obama team tried to overturn it. Just went back to the way it was a few months ago. Good stuff!

Wasen't it for the militia's during the revolution or something to that effect? It dosen't mean every citizen, it states every organized militia has the right to bear arms to keep the peace. This was back when the states were seperate states and not a united entity like we are now.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

My understanding of it is that a militia is necessary to the security of a free state - that means from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. This includes our own government if it came to that.

The second part of the amendment states that the people of the United States will not have their right to keep and bear arms infringed upon. It is not tied to participation in a militia.

People do not attach stipulations to any other amendments. The second amendment should be no different. For example:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As a person of the United States, your freedom of speech is not dependent on the issue, whether or not you are a member of a group, whether we are in war-time or peace, etc.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights exists because it is what the United States independence was founded on. It is why we are known as the "Land of the Free." It certainly should not be changed based on the whim of a generation.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..."

Maybe that is the part you need to pay attention to.
A bunch of uneducated idiots (the majority of gun owners as I see it) running around with guns is neither "well regulated" nor "necessary".

Last time I checked, the US seemed to being doing just fine without the help of armed citizens. The only thing that armed citizens have done around here is shoot each other up, shoot up schools, blow up buildings with innocents, and wage domestic terrorism.

Just cuz you think guns should be checked at the door doesn't mean you should do the same with your reading comprehension. Try reading my post again and then respond to the actual points made.

im not anti guns, but still,as an avid outdoors person, whats the point really?
the average mountain lion death rate yearly in the us-.8
the average bear death rate in the us-about 1.3
so youre probably more likely to die from bees, which im fairly certain are really fuckin hard to shoot-the real issue here is developing some sort of bee bullet

LOL @ the bee bullet!

But seriously, it is the 2 legged animals that I'm worried about. Bad people can do bad things anywhere. Gun-free zones don't keep criminals and illegal guns away.

A handyman who admitted killing three Yosemite National Park tourists was sentenced to death on Thursday. This summer, a jury convicted the handyman, Cary Stayner, of the February 1999 murders of Carole Sund, 42; her daughter, Juli, 15; and their friend Silvina Pelosso, 16. Mr. Stayner, 41, is serving a federal life sentence for killing a Yosemite nature guide, Joie Armstrong, in July 1999.

I would support a bee bullet.

Although, it is amusing to watch chris run screaming like a girl whenever one comes by.

ha,im suprised you ventured that far when you need only go 3hrs up to the Appalachian trail-the amount of pot farms there with nutjobs is crazy
Still, Im be more for it if equal energy was put into proper policing and more funding towards park rangers

edit:alicia bees are no laughing matter.mainly because...THERES ONE RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!
ha no,some dude in like texas just got mass stung the other day-check it:

Good read, it sucks how certain areas of the Poconoes are surrounded by national parks so just by driving across town you're in violation.
