Little discussion topic here.

Does the chamber of a gun really matter to you?

Little back story to trigger :) this.

Me and the Fiancee go to a public gun range down here in Houston.

There are two younger guys to the left of us and an older man to the right.

We are shooting my .22 Walther, the younger guys to the left and shooting what looks to be a Taurus .45 911, the old man a 357 revolver.

They both ended up making comments about our "small" gun and laughing to themselves about it.

Old man says the following as my fiancee is shooting "You're getting them tinny little hot shells all over my side!" In a joking manor. I know he wasn't being hurtful, but it was still said in a condescending manor.

Young kids to each other "What is that gun? I think its a little .22 or something. Snicker snicker"

I personally don't care. Especially when we are at a 15 yard range and I'm putting 6-8 out of 10 rounds into a 1.5" grouping and they can't even hit a 5" center target!

I would personally rather have a gun that is smaller in chamber, and cheaper to shoot. Then I can be more proficient in shooting it, as I can go and shoot 500 rounds at a time if I want. I think it is all about being familiar with a gun.

If you ever need to use a gun for protection, do you think a person will stop and say "Did you really just pull a 9mm on me?" and not take you seriously?

Any hoot does size matter to you?! :)

Ok who here has a Judge chambered in 410 shot gun? :p

Well, I prefer 9mm guns as of right now because I can carry 13+1 or 19+1 rounds (depending on the gun), vs 7+1 in your typical 1911 in .45. I'd rather have the extra shots for the same weight. With a jacketed hollowpoint in +P, I'm pretty confident.

That said, you would have a serious problem trying to stop a violent attacked with a .22. The smallest caliber I carry as a backup is .380, and I'm not too confident it would stop someone rampaging on PCP/etc.

For me it is purely a matter of satisfaction... If I'm going to shoot a little pea out, I may as well get a BB gun and do it at home into a paper target... I just find bigger calibers more enjoyable to shoot.
And accuracy wise, a well put together 9mm or .45 can be every bit as accurate as your average .22 ;)

My 2 cents worth :D I don't really pick guns thinking about what I would like someone to get hit with; historically that has proven a very effective way of going to jail for a very long time, even if you think you were justified; I'll use a Tazer if I really have to.

I agree 100%. I know guys with 45s that very accurate. I was more so referring to these guys accuracy as being a personal problem, not their guns.

Very good points!
