I've been reading about this lately and figured some of you may be able to help me out....nick, you seem to know your turbo tuning shit.

First off, my car is still N/A but I'm interested in getting into a little tuning anyway. My main question is, is it necessary to have a dyno capable of holding a constant load (i.e. able to replicate part throttle conditions such as 4200 rpm 65% throttle, 2500 rpm 95% throttle etc...) in order to properly tune using an SAFC? WOT throttle can easily be done on the street but its part throttle tuning that i'm worried about. (I know i'll need a wideband, no prob there)

Also, how do I set up a base map? For instance I already have aftermarket software and I only want to tweak it a little (chip runs lean till ~3500 then goes waaaay rich up top 11:1 + , I KNOW there is power to be had by getting it to around 13.1 maybe 13.5 or more so long as there is no detonation) Will the SAFC allow me to start tuning from where my current chip is set up at and just let me go from there or do I effectively have to start from the beginning? I dont think i'm ready to start from scratch but Im pretty confident I could take it from where my chip left off.

Dynos can't measure part throttle load consistently. Unless you could hold your throttle at exactly 50% (or whatever %) run after run to make any worthwhile comparison. Part throttle tuning is usually seat of the pants type ish. Unless you have on board telemtry, but this is only safc kiddie stuff.

Your "base map" with a safc is you current rom's map. The safc only fools the ecu into altering that map at different intervals. Hence its "piggyback" designation. So you only nead to faten it up down low and lean it out up top, not start from scatch.

theres the safc 2 manual for more info...

tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight thanks!!!

Anyone use one of these? Comments?

Also, can I have two programs (like a nitrous program where i can alter it's WOT settings independently of my N/A setup?)

what about the perfect fower SMT-6? Anyone with experience? This allows timing adjustments among a myriad of other features. Would this be too much to mess with on the street, and does this work the same as the SAFC (I get to pick up the tuning where my current chip left off?)

Finally, screen shots of what i'd actually be working with would be really nice if anyone had a link or something.

THANKS in advance for the help guys!! :)

I have one, and IMO its a half assed tuning solution. I just use it so I can run a giant MAF and an atmospheric blow off valve.

You can't run multiple programs with it. And I would think if you wanted to cheat and run nos, you would want timing control (which a safc can't do.)

Im leaning more towards the perfect power SMT-6, as it allows timing adjustments also. Anyone have experience with this???

Sorry for such a late post. I am not well informed with tuning cars. I do know generalizations for a few cars (i.e. GN & STi) for fuel, timing, and more boost. Sorry I cant help with your Barvarian monster. BTW, good luck.
